myEMPD began more than a decade ago from personal experience with EMPD. For many years, the site was created, maintained, and funded entirely by Stephen Schroeder to ensure that patients and families could find clear, reliable information and know they were not alone. At the time, awareness of EMPD was extremely limited, and trustworthy resources were hard to find.

Over time, patients, caregivers, and families affected by EMPD stepped forward to volunteer, share their stories, and contribute financially. What began as one person’s effort has grown into a shared commitment supported by a small but deeply dedicated community.

Every contribution directly supports EMPD awareness and education. Donations help cover website hosting, email services, outreach, and the ongoing development of educational content, keeping this site accessible and current for anyone searching for answers.

Transparency and donation information

Donations are processed securely through Stripe. The full donation amount goes to myEMPD, minus standard credit card processing fees, typically around 3 percent plus $0.30 per donation.

myEMPD is a volunteer-run awareness initiative and is not currently registered as a nonprofit organization, so donations are not tax-deductible at this time. Transparency matters to us, and any future changes will be clearly communicated.
