Extramammary Paget’s disease (EMPD) is a rare skin cancer that most often appears around the genitalia, groin and perianal regions in women and men. It can also appear elsewhere in the body. EMPD can look innocuous and is often ignored. However, early diagnosis helps tremendously with the treatment of the disease. If you suspect you might have EMPD, see your doctor. Dr. Sophie Dessureault is a surgical oncologist in the Department of Gastrointestinal Oncology at Moffitt Cancer Center. She is a professor of oncology and surgery at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. Dr. Dessureault is widely published and is a member of numerous professional organizations.
