I am a board-certified dermatologist with advanced training and expertise in the diagnosis and management of skin cancer, particularly melanoma. To most effectively manage my patients at high risk for skin cancer, I use total body photography, dermoscopy, sequential digital dermoscopic imaging, and confocal laser microscopy. These imaging techniques allow me to noninvasively diagnose skin cancers as early as possible, while also minimizing the unnecessary removal of benign skin lesions. I work closely with a multidisciplinary team of dermatologists, surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, physician assistants, nurses, and patient advocates to deliver the best possible care for my patients and their families. I am deeply committed to compassionate patient communication and to fostering an environment where patients can make informed healthcare decisions.
My research aim is to reduce melanoma-related deaths. Currently, I am focused on using novel skin-imaging techniques to improve melanoma risk stratification, melanoma diagnosis, and our understanding of the unique biologic pathways through which nevi (moles) and melanoma develop. This research includes an ongoing study of the evolution of moles in children and adolescents as well as an international collaboration that aims to create a public skin lesion image archive to support education, clinical decision making, and computerized image analysis efforts.
I am also firmly committed to education and community service. I participate in Memorial Sloan Kettering’s annual free skin cancer screening program and frequently lecture to trainees. I am an invited speaker at national dermatology meetings, as well as an author of numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters.
