Dr. Voelzke is an associate professor in the department of urology. He is fellowship trained in adult male genitourinary reconstructive surgery, as well.
Patient Care Philosophy
The trust that a patient places in their surgeon is unique and special. I try to be mindful of words of wisdom from one of my mentors- “the patient will live with the outcome of a surgical procedure for the rest of their lives”. I strive to do the best that I can for each patient by treating him/her as I would want to be treated.
Adult reconstructive surgery is a broad field. I am interested in the surgical management of the following: urethral stricture disease, adult hypospadias, adult male stress incontinence, complications related to radiation/surgery following the treatment of pelvic cancer (i.e, rectourthral fistula), male genital skin deficiency (i.e., buried penis), reconstruction following genital necrotizing soft tissue infection, acute/delayed reconstruction following genitourinary trauma and complications following transgender surgery.
Dr. Voelzke’s research interests include quality of life in the setting of adult male reconstructive surgery and urologic trauma. He completed his master’s degree in clinical epidemiology in 2013 and is currently collaborating with the Seattle Quality of Life Group to develop a much needed patient reported outcome measure for men with urethral stricture disease.
Dr. Voelzke also helped lead the formation of the Trauma and Urologic Reconstruction Network of Surgeons (TURNS), a multi-institutional cohort of adult male reconstructive surgeons, with a goal to improve current practices and elevate the overall standards of reconstructive and urologic trauma care through technical innovation and outcomes-based research.
